COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This educational program prepares graduates for eligibility to take the State of California examination for Psychiatric Technician licensure. As a Licensed Psychiatric Technician, the graduate is qualified to practice in a variety of health care settings providing patient care within the parameters of the Psychiatric Technician scope of practice.

The target students are those who graduated from a Psychiatric Tech program and those who qualify under Method #2 list of requirements set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician.

Much of the lecture hours will focus on questions and rationales related to the most appropriate answers. Some hours will focus on discussions of complicated topics as needed.

·    Basic Nursing Care  Treatment Plan

·    Individual Group Therapy Client Training and

·    Behavioral Management

STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

Students attending this program will be able to:

·    Gather important information and rationales on the topics of focus

·    Acquire test-taking strategies

·    Review simulated Psychiatric Tech question materials

·    Gain insight on the examination proper

·    Understand the Psychiatric Tech. examination proper

·    Have an adequate body of knowledge to pass the Psychiatric Technician exam

Program Delivery Schedule for 60-Theory Hours

This program may be delivered 6 hours per day for 10 days

This program may be delivered 12 hours per week for 5 weeks

This program may be delivered 15 hours per week for 4 weeks

Program Delivery Schedule for 30-Theory Hours

This program may be delivered 5 hours per day for 6 days

This program may be delivered 6 hours per week for 5 weeks

This program may be delivered 15 hours per week for 2 weeks
